Paintings of kings Park Cullity Gallery, UWA

Rowena was invited by Kings Park to be artist in residence for a year to create a series of paintings depicting the essence and beauty of the Botanic Gardens and surrounding bushland. She started her residency during the Spring Festival in September 2017 and finished in September 2018. As a result of the residency, Kings Park and Rowena collaborated to produce an exhibition of the paintings done during her time working in Kings Park.

Kings Park is home to the spectacular Western Australian Botanic Garden, which displays over 3,000 species of the State’s unique flora. Two thirds of the 400 hectare park is protected as bushland and provides a haven for native biological diversity. Rowena spent many hours throughout the year walking, photographing, drawing and painting in the Botanical Gardens and the bushland getting to know the different types of flora and their natural cycle.

My time at kings park was EXTREMELY special, i feel very lucky to have had the opportunity to get to know such a magnificent and unique place. there was always something happening throughout the year, new shoots APPEARING, flowers blossoming, seedpods forming along with animals and birds nesting and feeding. it really was wonderful seeing the change and evolution of nature from season to season.
